ASU Alum John Rahm has had great success during his professional Debut. He has won on the PGA and European PGA tours.

John has a noticeable short backswing. I am an advocate of this type of swing as while it promotes consistency it is not short on power.

In trying to build the most consistent and repeatable swing possible you want to keep the club and arms in sync with your body. Swinging too long can disrupt this and cause you to hit off line. You also want to generate a great amount of torque in your swing. I’ve always felt that comes from turning (not overturning) your shoulders and hips to their maximum extent. If you over extend or lift your arms you will create power leaks.

Keep your backswing short, compact and torqued to generate maximum consistency and power in your game.
